zzzzz…..

This job has turned me into an insomniac. And, when I am actually able to fall asleep, I have very vivid dreams about work. Crazy stuff like none of the instruments are sterile, or they want me to work with oven mitts on instead of gloves. I am sure this will pass, though I wish it would hurry along. Working those kind of hours on very little sleep is a terrible feeling….

It sounds cool….

It sounds cool, but it is a lot of work. Recently, I became the newest member of a cardiac team somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. The team is amazing. The work, of course, is amazing as well. And incredibly stressful.

Recently, however, I have been able to enjoy the experience that is organ procurement. There is something very adventurous about climbing into a small jet, flying to another state and being taken by ambulance to a strange hospital. The other teams are typically already there, and anxious to get started. But heart procurement is serious business, and we take a few moments to assess the situation and get set up before we get started. And that is just the beginning…

I don’t really know how this blog will turn out…we shall see. My goal is to write about my adventures in cardiac surgery, share interesting stories, and maybe pick up a few followers along the way.

Cheers!
